The City of Grants Pass is seeking residents interested in shaping the future of local parks and recreational spaces by serving on its Parks Advisory Committee. Two positions on the committee have opened due to vacancies, and the city is now accepting applications from community members who want to take an active role in planning and preserving public green spaces. The newly appointed members will serve through September 6, 2026.
The Parks Advisory Committee plays a key role in evaluating the city’s current and future park needs. Committee members are tasked with reviewing plans and making formal recommendations to city officials on a range of issues including the development of new parkland, identifying potential trail locations, improving existing recreational spaces, and ensuring the equitable distribution of resources between different types of park users. Their work also extends to advising on funding strategies and the preservation of natural and recreational resources for long-term community benefit.
Grants Pass continues to see growth in its population and recreational programs, increasing the need for strategic park development and maintenance. Committee members provide valuable community perspectives that help shape how public spaces evolve, ensuring that park planning reflects both current needs and future opportunities. This includes exploring where new parks or trails might best serve residents, reviewing infrastructure proposals, and offering input on how recreational amenities can be maintained and improved in a sustainable way.
The city encourages individuals with a passion for community engagement, environmental stewardship, or recreational planning to consider applying. Participation on the committee involves attending regular meetings, reviewing materials, and working collaboratively with fellow committee members and city staff to provide thoughtful input on a variety of projects and initiatives.
