The City of Grants Pass has announced the official end of the 2024 fire season, which will take effect at 9 AM on Sunday, October 27, 2024. With the conclusion of the fire season, all public regulated use restrictions related to fire safety within the city will be lifted.
Following the end of fire season, the Fall 2024 Open Burn Window is scheduled from Saturday, November 2, through Sunday, November 10. During this period, residents will be allowed to conduct open burning under certain conditions. Beginning Wednesday, October 30, residents can obtain the necessary burn permits either online or in person.
To apply for a burn permit, residents can use the Grants Pass Fire Community Connect platform. Alternatively, permits can be acquired in person at the Fire Prevention Office located at 800 E Park St. The office will be open from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Any inquiries can be directed to the Fire Prevention Bureau at 541-450-6200.
Residents must ensure compliance with air quality regulations before burning. Burning is permitted only when the Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) ventilation index for the local airshed is 400 or higher. The most current ventilation index information can be obtained by calling the Burn Line at 541-476-9663, option 3, after 7:00 AM each day.
The city’s fire department emphasizes the importance of checking the airshed conditions to minimize potential health risks and environmental impacts.
