Grants Pass, OR. — The Grants Pass Police Department has officially welcomed its newest officer, Caleb Ardaiz, who took his oath of office earlier this week. Ardaiz was sworn in during a ceremony where Police Chief Warren Hensman pinned on his badge. Ardaiz is expected to begin training at the police academy in April as he embarks on his new career in law enforcement.
Ardaiz, who grew up in Medford, Oregon, brings a diverse background in public service. A graduate of South Medford High School, Ardaiz first entered public service by joining the U.S. Army as an infantryman. After completing basic training, he served in a scout and sniper platoon, where he gained specialized skills during his time in the military. Following his deployment, Ardaiz transitioned into the fire service, initially working as a wildland firefighter. His firefighting career advanced when he was hired by Klamath County Fire District 1 as a firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT).
In a statement provided by the department, Ardaiz explained his motivation for joining law enforcement, emphasizing his desire to continue serving the community in a new capacity. “It offers the unique opportunity to serve and protect while making a tangible difference in the community,” Ardaiz said. “It’s a role that requires both critical thinking and empathy, and I am eager to apply my skills in service of others.”
Ardaiz also shared his reasons for selecting Grants Pass as the place to begin his career in policing. He described the city as a “fantastic city and a close-knit welcoming community,” and added that he was drawn to the department’s commitment to making a difference through professional policing.
The hiring of Ardaiz comes as police departments nationwide continue efforts to recruit new officers amid growing public scrutiny of law enforcement practices. The Grants Pass Police Department has stated its ongoing dedication to building strong community relationships and delivering professional public safety services.
Chief Hensman spoke briefly during the badge-pinning ceremony, welcoming Ardaiz and expressing confidence that he would be an asset to the department and to the community. “We are pleased to have Caleb joining our team. His background in both military and emergency services brings valuable experience and perspective that will benefit our department and the residents we serve,” Hensman said.
As Ardaiz prepares for his upcoming training at the police academy, he is expected to participate in a variety of community engagement activities and internal training sessions designed to integrate him into the department and the broader Grants Pass community.
The police department has invited community members to extend a warm welcome to Ardaiz as he begins this new chapter in public service.
