(Salem, OR) – Oregon Democratic leaders, including Governor Tina Kotek, Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, and Representative Suzanne Bonamici, have expressed satisfaction with the federal investment funneling into Intel’s campus in Hillsboro.
Representative Bonamici praised the expansion, emphasizing its potential to bolster Oregon’s renowned research and development sector while creating numerous sustainable, well-paying jobs. The project, which will receive the largest allocation of Intel’s $100 billion spending initiative spanning four states, aims to maintain Hillsboro’s Gordon Moore Park as a hub of innovation.
The unveiling of Intel’s spending plans coincided with the Biden Administration’s announcement that the tech giant would receive significant financial support under the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act, along with up to $11 billion in federal loan guarantees. President Biden highlighted the importance of this federal funding during an address in Arizona, another state hosting a substantial Intel presence and a pivotal battleground in the upcoming 2024 election.
According to recent disclosures, Intel intends to invest $36 billion in Oregon to revamp and expand its research and development hub in Hillsboro, underscoring the company’s commitment to advancing technology and driving economic growth in the region.
