Jacksonville, OR – Jacksonville’s National Historic Landmark District is set to reveal its eerie side with a special Haunted History walking tour this Friday. Historic Jacksonville, Inc. invites locals and visitors to uncover the spine-chilling stories and ghostly legends that linger in the town’s historic district.
Participants will hear tales of vengeful women, philandering husbands, playful children, and other spectral beings. The tour delves into accounts of “cherished possessions,” arson for profit, an art critic, a Chinese miner seeking to have his bones returned to his native soil, and numerous other ghostly inhabitants of Jacksonville.
Unlike typical ghost tours adorned with special effects, these Haunted History tours are rooted in the town’s rich historical context, providing a narrative about the buildings, their occupants, and the life of a gold rush town. The stories, drawn from multiple sources and firsthand accounts, vary from the terrifying to the benign.
The event is scheduled for Friday, June 14th, featuring two distinct tours:
- 7:00 PM – Courthouse Tour: This tour covers tales of brothels, epidemics, and hangings.
- 7:15 PM – Britt Hill Tour: This tour explores stories of murder, arson, saloons, and Chinatown.
Both tours promise encounters with several haunted houses. Tours will depart from the Jacksonville Visitors Center, located at the corner of North Oregon and C streets. Each tour covers approximately one mile and lasts about one hour.
Tickets are priced at $10 per person, and reservations are required. For more information or to book a spot, visit historicjacksonville.org/haunted-history-tours.
