A major recall has been issued by TreeHouse Foods, a food manufacturing company based in Oak Brook, Illinois, due to potential Listeria contamination. The company expanded its recall on Tuesday to include approximately 200 frozen breakfast products, beyond just waffles, which may pose health risks if consumed. According to the press release, all affected products were manufactured at a single facility and are still within their shelf-life.
The expanded recall covers various frozen breakfast items sold under multiple brand names, including Best Choice, Krusteaz, and others. These products are distributed through major supermarket chains across the country, such as Albertsons, Aldi, Kroger, Publix, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, and Wegmans. The recalled items span a range of breakfast foods, broadening the scope of potential exposure to the bacteria.
Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria in question, can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, and gastrointestinal issues, while the bacteria can also pose significant risks for pregnant women, potentially leading to miscarriage or stillbirth.
