Motorists traveling through downtown Grants Pass will encounter a temporary road closure next week as construction crews complete improvements along a section of Fifth Street.
Beginning Wednesday, August 5, and continuing through Thursday, August 6, Fifth Street between G Street and H Street will be closed to all through traffic while contractors install new concrete and traffic bollards as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements. The temporary closure is expected to remain in effect throughout the construction period, allowing crews to safely complete the work.
Although the affected section of Fifth Street will be inaccessible to through traffic, the alley serving the area will remain open during the project, providing continued access for vehicles that rely on the adjacent alleyway. Drivers should be aware, however, that access across the construction zone will not be permitted.
Detour routes will be established around the work area to help direct motorists safely through downtown while construction is underway. Travelers are encouraged to allow additional travel time and to follow all posted signs, barricades, and traffic control devices as they navigate around the closure.
City officials are advising residents, employees, customers, and visitors to avoid the affected portion of Fifth Street whenever possible and to use alternate routes during the two-day construction project. Businesses in the surrounding area are expected to remain accessible, although drivers may need to approach from different directions because of the closure.
Emergency vehicles will also be unable to pass through the work zone while construction activities are taking place. Restricting access is intended to protect construction personnel, equipment, and the public while concrete placement and bollard installation are completed.
