Our community came together in a big way last weekend for the 5th annual 4TheKids Livestock Auction, a cornerstone event that continues to grow each year. This year, 205 young participants showcased the fruits of their hard work and dedication, drawing in a crowd of supporters who rallied around them for a good cause.
The auction was a true testament to the community’s support, with over 160 buyers participating. These young individuals didn’t just raise livestock; they also went out into the community to personally invite businesses, organizations, and individuals to join the event, demonstrating both entrepreneurial spirit and community engagement.
One of the standout moments from the auction was when a young man earned more than $30,000 for his market hog—a testament to the exceptional quality of the animals and the support from the community. Additionally, several organizations came forward with significant contributions, with some spending over $40,000 to support the kids.
In a generous gesture, 4H announced that the pig pens used during the event would be donated to the Josephine County Fairgrounds, ensuring that future generations of young farmers will have the resources they need. Moreover, the auction also led to over 12,000 pounds of meat being donated to local organizations such as Joe’s Place, Women’s Crisis Support Team, Gospel Rescue Mission, and the Josephine County Food Bank, directly benefiting those in need within our community.
The success of the auction is a collective achievement, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in making it happen—from the kids and their families to the buyers, volunteers, and organizers.
As we celebrate this success, we also look forward to our next community event—the annual “Adopted Child” benefit golf tournament. Scheduled for Sunday, September 15th, at Dutcher Creek Golf Course, this event promises to be another opportunity for our community to come together and make a difference. Stay tuned for more details, and let’s keep the spirit of giving alive!
