Grants Pass, OR — The City of Grants Pass is currently accepting applications for three available seats on the Grants Pass and Josephine County Bikeways and Walkways Committee. These openings are the result of expiring terms, and the selected individuals will each serve a three-year term. The committee plays a vital role in shaping the future of pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure throughout the region.
The Bikeways and Walkways Committee is charged with gathering community input and working collaboratively to promote safe, accessible, and well-maintained routes for both bicyclists and pedestrians. It functions as an advisory body to city and county officials, providing guidance on trail planning, infrastructure improvements, and educational outreach.
One of the committee’s core missions is to coordinate and share public education materials that inform residents about local walking and biking routes, safety regulations, and best practices for shared road use. In addition to advising on infrastructure, the committee also serves as a hub of information for the public, fostering greater awareness and appreciation for alternative transportation methods.
Applicants interested in serving on the committee must be residents of the City of Grants Pass. Preference will be given to individuals who actively represent the interests of cyclists and pedestrians. This could include people who regularly commute by bicycle or foot, advocates for active transportation, or those with professional or volunteer experience related to transportation planning, safety, or public health.
Applications are currently available at the City Administration Office, located at 101 N.W. A Street in Grants Pass. Residents may also apply online by visiting the city’s official website at grantspassoregon.gov.
To be considered, completed applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025. Following the submission deadline, applications will be reviewed by the committee on Tuesday, June 10. Final appointments will be made by the City Council during its public meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
For those passionate about improving local transportation networks and creating a more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly community, this is a meaningful opportunity to contribute. Participation on the committee allows residents to directly influence public policy and infrastructure development while ensuring the needs of non-motorized travelers are front and center in city planning discussions.
As the region continues to prioritize sustainability, accessibility, and public health, the role of the Bikeways and Walkways Committee remains critical. Community engagement is a cornerstone of effective local governance, and this call for applications reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to inclusive decision-making.
Interested residents are encouraged to apply early and help shape a safer, healthier, and more connected Grants Pass and Josephine County.
