Grants Pass motorists should prepare for two separate road projects next week that will bring temporary lane restrictions, signal shutdowns, and detours in key parts of the city. City officials and contractors are urging drivers to plan ahead, use alternate routes when possible, and expect minor delays as crews work on both overnight and daytime projects.
The first closure will take place overnight at the busy intersection of Fire Mountain Way and NE “E” Street. Beginning at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, traffic signals at the intersection will be shut down entirely as crews perform scheduled work in the area. The shutdown is expected to last until 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13. During that time, active flaggers will be present to direct vehicles through the intersection. The work is scheduled overnight to minimize the impact on peak commuter hours, but late-night and early-morning travelers may experience delays.
The second project will begin one day earlier, on Monday, August 11, and will affect traffic along “G” Street between 3rd Street and 4th Street in the downtown core. The westbound lane will experience intermittent closures as crews install a new fire vault — an underground utility feature essential for providing water access to firefighting systems in the area. Unlike the overnight project on “E” Street, this work will be ongoing throughout the month of August, with lane restrictions occurring periodically depending on the stage of construction.
While the closures are necessary for infrastructure upgrades, they come at a time when both “G” Street and “E” Street typically see steady traffic from residents, delivery vehicles, and visitors. City officials are reminding motorists that detours will be in place for both projects. Drivers who do not need to be in the affected areas are encouraged to avoid them entirely to reduce congestion and allow crews to work more efficiently.
Emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through both work zones without delay. However, standard traffic may be redirected, slowed, or temporarily stopped during active work periods. Flaggers and posted signs will guide drivers safely through or around the closures.
