An anonymous donor has pledged to match up to $50,000 in contributions to Guardians of the Josephine County K-9 Unit, creating an opportunity for the nonprofit to raise $100,000 for another trained dog, patrol equipment and continued support of local K-9 teams.
The fundraising effort seeks $50,000 in community donations to secure the full matching contribution. Money raised will help purchase and train an additional K-9, equip a patrol vehicle and provide kennels, other equipment and initial veterinary care.
The proposed expansion would support deputies working across Josephine County’s large, rural territory, where officers often handle assignments alone. Trained K-9 partners assist with suspect apprehension, tracking and locating while providing additional support for deputies in the field.
“Our deputies cover a large, rural county and often work alone,” Guardians stated. “Having a trained K-9 partner provides an extra layer of safety while also helping with suspect apprehension, tracking, and locating.”
Guardians raises money for equipment, training and other resources for local K-9 teams. The matching campaign would help the organization address both the expenses of adding another dog and the equipment needed to support that team’s work.
Those expenses extend beyond purchasing the animal. Training, vehicle outfitting, kennels and veterinary care are among the costs identified for the expansion. The organization has designated those needs as priorities for the proceeds of the campaign.
Any money remaining after those expenses will stay with Guardians to help meet the K-9 program’s continuing needs and support future growth. The fundraising effort therefore includes resources for an additional team as well as support for the program after the initial purchases and training.
Under the donor’s offer, community contributions will be matched dollar for dollar until the $50,000 matching limit is reached. A $50 donation would generate another $50 from the donor, providing $100 for the nonprofit’s work. Reaching the community fundraising goal would make the full $100,000 available.
