GRANTS PASS, OR. — Local drivers should prepare for temporary traffic disruptions near Grants Pass High School this Friday evening, as the city implements street closures to accommodate the 2025 graduation ceremony.
According to the City of Grants Pass, “A” Street between Dean Drive and 9th Street will be closed to through traffic from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025. This five-hour closure is intended to support the safe arrival and departure of students, families, and staff participating in or attending the high school’s commencement ceremony.
In addition to the primary closure, barricades will also be placed at Flint Street, further limiting access in the immediate vicinity of the high school during the event. The road closures are expected to reduce traffic congestion, enhance pedestrian safety, and ensure a smooth flow of attendees around the school campus.
The city will post detour signs and directional assistance to help motorists navigate alternate routes around the affected area. Drivers who typically commute through this neighborhood are advised to plan ahead, leave extra travel time, and avoid the area if possible.
Despite the closures to general traffic, emergency vehicles will be granted access to ensure public safety and maintain emergency response capabilities during the event.
Graduation ceremonies are among the largest annual gatherings in Grants Pass, drawing hundreds of attendees and creating increased vehicle and foot traffic in surrounding areas. City officials and school administrators have coordinated to make sure the event proceeds smoothly while minimizing inconvenience to local residents and drivers.
The closure is a standard part of the city’s annual planning for large school-related events and is not expected to cause major disruptions beyond the immediate vicinity. However, residents living near the high school and businesses in the area should be prepared for temporary changes in traffic flow and increased pedestrian activity in the early evening hours.
Those seeking more detailed information, including street closure maps or detour specifics, are encouraged to contact Julie Hall with the City of Grants Pass at (541) 450-6000.
Graduation at Grants Pass High School is a significant milestone for the local community, symbolizing both achievement and transition. As always, motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously, observe posted signs, and be especially mindful of pedestrians in and around the high school campus during this time.
