A welfare check at a rural residence in the Pickett Creek area ended in a grim discovery Monday morning, when law enforcement found five people dead in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide. The Oregon State Police (OSP) is leading the investigation at the request of the local sheriff’s office, with assistance from the Grants Pass Police Department.
The incident unfolded on August 11, 2025, shortly before 10 a.m., when deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Hussey Lane after receiving a report that a woman living there had not shown up for work. Upon arrival, deputies noticed suspicious circumstances outside the home, prompting them to enter the property to check on its occupants.
Inside, deputies and OSP officers discovered five people who appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. The deceased were identified as 42-year-old Hannah Marie Behee, an 11-year-old male juvenile, a 9-year-old male juvenile, and a 7-year-old female juvenile. Also found dead was 40-year-old Chad Scott Behee, identified by investigators as the suspected shooter. Authorities believe the case to be a murder-suicide, though no details about the motive or sequence of events have been released.
The Pickett Creek area, known for its quiet, rural character, has been shaken by the deaths. Residents expressed shock at the scale of the violence, noting that such incidents are virtually unheard of in the community.
Investigators and crime scene specialists remained at the property for much of Monday and Tuesday, gathering evidence and documenting the scene. While officials have not confirmed whether a firearm was recovered, they have stated that the victims all suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
