Drivers traveling through downtown Grants Pass should plan ahead this week as a temporary road closure is scheduled to accommodate infrastructure maintenance work.
According to the City of Grants Pass, a section of SW Oak Street will be closed to through traffic on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. The closure will affect SW Oak Street from SW H Street to SW Bridge Street while city crews perform a manhole adjustment project.
City officials say the work is part of routine maintenance aimed at improving roadway safety and protecting underground utility systems. Manhole adjustments are periodically required to ensure access points remain level with the roadway surface, reducing wear on vehicles and preventing long-term damage to pavement and stormwater infrastructure.
During the closure, access will be limited to local traffic only. Businesses and residences within the affected area will remain reachable, but motorists not traveling directly to nearby properties are encouraged to avoid the corridor altogether. Detours will be clearly marked to help redirect traffic around the construction zone.
Emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through the area as needed to maintain public safety services throughout the duration of the project.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time Wednesday morning and early afternoon, particularly during peak commuting hours. City officials advise using alternate routes to minimize congestion and help crews complete the work efficiently and safely.
Temporary street closures for infrastructure maintenance are common as municipalities work to preserve aging utility systems and maintain road conditions across the city. Officials emphasize that short-term disruptions such as this one help prevent larger repairs and more extensive closures in the future.
The City of Grants Pass reminds motorists to use caution near work zones, reduce speeds, and watch for construction personnel and equipment operating in the area.
Residents seeking additional information about the closure or traffic impacts may contact the City of Grants Pass Public Works Department at 541-450-6110.
