A longtime local favorite is bringing something new, and honestly pretty fun, to Easter this year.
I stopped by Sandi’s Candies & Fudgery on G Street this morning after getting a tip from Sandi herself that she had been working on something special. If you have spent any time in Grants Pass over the years, you already know this shop. It is one of those places that feels familiar the second you walk in, the kind of spot that has become part of people’s routines and holiday traditions without even trying.
Sandi has been making handmade sweets for 27 years, and that consistency shows. From the fudge to the chocolate displays behind the counter, everything still carries that small-batch, made-with-care feel that people expect when they walk through the door.
This year, she is adding something new to the Easter lineup called “Smash Eggs.”
The concept is simple, but it works. Each chocolate egg is filled with candy and comes with a small wooden hammer so you can crack it open yourself. It is interactive, a little messy, and a lot more fun than just unwrapping something out of a box. It is the kind of thing that makes you stop for a second and actually enjoy it, which is probably the whole point.
Sandi gave me a quick look behind the counter, and you could tell she is genuinely excited about it. That is something that stands out every time I stop in. This is not just a business to her. There is real pride in what she is doing, and it shows in the details, especially when she is introducing something new.
The shop has also added Blind George’s Popcorn to the mix, giving customers even more options when they stop in. It is a smart addition and another example of local businesses supporting each other while giving people more reasons to shop close to home.
What makes this place work after all these years is that it has never tried to be anything other than what it is. It is consistent, it is local, and it is personal. At the same time, it is still willing to evolve just enough to keep things interesting, especially around the holidays when people are looking for something a little different.
The Smash Eggs fit right into that. They are not overcomplicated, they are just a fresh idea built on top of what Sandi already does well.
If you are putting together Easter baskets this year, this is one of those stops that is worth making. Not just for the new items, but for everything else that has kept people coming back for nearly three decades.
And as always, it is a reminder that some of the best things in Grants Pass are still being made right here, by people who care about what they do.
