Residents with an interest in preserving and improving Grants Pass’ urban landscape have an opportunity to help guide local tree-related programs and policies as the City of Grants Pass begins accepting applications for a vacancy on its Urban Tree Advisory Committee.
The opening comes as the city continues its participation in the Tree City USA program, a nationwide initiative that encourages communities to manage and expand urban forests through education, planning, and stewardship. The selected applicant will fill an existing vacancy on the committee, with the term extending through September 30, 2027.
The Urban Tree Advisory Committee serves as a volunteer advisory body focused on reviewing, developing, and supporting programs designed to protect and enhance the city’s urban forest. Urban forests include the network of trees found throughout parks, neighborhoods, public spaces, and streetscapes. These trees contribute to community livability by providing shade, improving air quality, reducing stormwater runoff, supporting wildlife habitat, and enhancing the visual character of the city.
Committee members work with city staff and local stakeholders to evaluate opportunities for tree preservation, planting efforts, public education initiatives, and long-term strategies aimed at maintaining a healthy and sustainable tree canopy throughout Grants Pass. The committee’s role also supports the city’s continued participation in Tree City USA, which recognizes municipalities that demonstrate a commitment to effective urban forest management.
According to the city, applicants should have an interest in the promotion and enhancement of the urban forest. While specialized forestry experience is not listed as a requirement for the position, the city is seeking individuals who are interested in contributing to community efforts that support tree conservation and urban environmental quality.

Final appointments are expected to be made during the City Council meeting scheduled for August 5, 2026.
