Over the last few months, I’ve made it a mission to try as many smash burgers as possible throughout Southern Oregon. With National Smash Burger Day rolling around, it seemed like the perfect excuse to stop by Valentino’s at Weekend Beer Company and see what all the buzz was about.
After one bite, I understood why so many people have recommended it.
The burger is a great example of why, sometimes, simple is best. The beef patty is smashed thin, seasoned well, and cooked until it develops that perfect crispy edge smash burger fans love. The toppings are straightforward: special sauce, grilled onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and cheese, all served on a sesame seed bun.
What impressed me most was the balance. Nothing overpowered the burger. Every ingredient worked together, allowing the flavor of the beef to remain the star of the show while the toppings added just the right amount of texture and freshness.
I’ve eaten a lot of burgers recently during my travels around the Rogue Valley, and I don’t say this lightly—Valentino’s has officially claimed my number one spot for smash burgers.
One of the things I enjoy most about these food adventures is discovering local businesses that take pride in doing the basics exceptionally well. Valentino’s is a perfect example of that philosophy. There’s no need for gimmicks when the fundamentals are executed this well.
If you’re a burger fan and haven’t made your way to Weekend Beer Company yet, I highly recommend giving this one a try. It might just earn the top spot on your list, too.
As always, support local.
