Residents of Grants Pass have an opportunity to help influence the future of a long-planned neighborhood park as city officials seek public input on the next phase of development for Beacon Hill Park, a nine-acre recreational space planned for the northeastern portion of the city.
Located near the intersection of Northeast Hillcrest Drive and Northeast Beacon Drive, the property was acquired by the City of Grants Pass more than two decades ago with the goal of expanding access to parks and outdoor recreation in an area that has historically had fewer public amenities than other parts of the community.
City officials are now revisiting plans for the site and encouraging residents to participate in a new community survey designed to gather feedback on what features, amenities, and recreational opportunities should be included in the park’s final design.
The effort represents the latest step in a project that has been years in the making. Initial public outreach began before the pandemic, with community members participating in a public forum in 2019 followed by a neighborhood survey in 2020. Those early conversations helped establish preliminary ideas for the park, but progress slowed as communities across the country adjusted to the disruptions brought on by COVID-19.
With development efforts now moving forward once again, city planners are seeking updated input to ensure the project reflects current community needs and expectations. Officials say the survey will help guide decisions about how the property is developed and what amenities residents would most like to see incorporated into the space.
Neighborhood parks serve an important role in growing communities by providing gathering spaces for families, opportunities for outdoor recreation, and areas where residents can connect with one another. As Grants Pass continues to evolve, city leaders view public participation as a key component of creating a park that serves both current residents and future generations.
The Beacon Hill Park project also highlights the long-term planning that often accompanies public infrastructure and recreation investments. While the property has remained undeveloped for years, the city has continued to identify it as an important location for expanding recreational opportunities and improving access to open space within the surrounding neighborhoods.
Community surveys are commonly used during park planning efforts to help determine priorities such as playgrounds, walking paths, picnic areas, sports facilities, landscaping features, and other amenities that contribute to neighborhood quality of life. Feedback gathered during the current survey period will be reviewed as city staff and planners work to refine the park’s design and establish future development goals.
Residents interested in participating can complete the online survey through the City of Grants Pass. The survey will remain available through 11:59 p.m. on July 12, providing community members several weeks to share their ideas and perspectives.
City officials encourage residents from throughout Grants Pass, particularly those living near the future park site, to take part in the process and help shape a project that could serve the neighborhood for decades to come. Public input collected during the survey period will play an important role in determining how the nine-acre property ultimately develops into a community recreational resource.
