Organizations, event organizers and tourism partners looking to expand visitor activity in Grants Pass have a new opportunity to secure funding aimed at bringing more travelers to the community and encouraging longer stays.
The City of Grants Pass has officially opened applications for its 2026 Tourism Promotion Grant program, a funding initiative designed to strengthen the local tourism economy by supporting the marketing and promotion of events, attractions and activities that draw visitors from outside the region. Applications will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2026.
The grant program offers awards ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 and is intended to help organizations increase awareness of projects that have the potential to generate measurable economic benefits for the community. Rather than funding the operation of an event itself, the program is focused specifically on promotional and marketing efforts that encourage travel to Grants Pass and increase overnight lodging stays.
Tourism continues to play an important role in the city’s economy by supporting local businesses, restaurants, hotels, retailers and recreation-based industries. Recognizing that impact, the City of Grants Pass dedicates 12 percent of its eligible tourism funding to the Sustainable Tourism Grant program. The investment is intended to foster long-term visitor growth while promoting experiences that encourage travelers to return year after year.
City officials are seeking projects capable of attracting visitors from more than 50 miles away, particularly those that create recurring tourism opportunities and contribute to the local economy beyond a single event. Programs that demonstrate the potential to generate repeat visitation and strengthen Grants Pass’ reputation as a destination community will receive the greatest consideration during the evaluation process.
A wide variety of projects are eligible for consideration. Recurring events that showcase sports, athletics, arts, culture, food, conferences, conventions and community celebrations are among those expected to receive priority. Organizers of annual festivals, competitions and cultural gatherings may find the grant especially valuable as they work to expand attendance and attract visitors from across Oregon and neighboring states.
Outdoor recreation also remains a significant focus of the program. Grants Pass continues to build its reputation as a destination for hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, rafting and trail exploration, and promotional efforts highlighting those opportunities may qualify for funding. The city’s proximity to rivers, forests and public lands has become an increasingly important part of its tourism identity, making recreation-based marketing a key component of the grant program.
Projects that highlight the community’s history and heritage are also encouraged to apply. Promotional campaigns centered on museums, historic architecture, culturally significant landmarks and industries that helped shape Southern Oregon, including logging, mining and the railroad, align with the program’s objectives of preserving and sharing the region’s unique story while attracting heritage tourism.
Community-centered experiences that showcase locally produced food, artisan products, environmental resources, ecology and the distinctive character of Grants Pass may also receive favorable consideration. In addition, proposals involving guided tours, travel packages and agritourism initiatives are eligible if they demonstrate the ability to bring new visitors into the area and encourage overnight stays.
As communities across Oregon continue investing in tourism as an economic development strategy, Grants Pass is using the program to support initiatives that strengthen local businesses while expanding the city’s appeal as a year-round destination. By focusing on sustainable tourism and strategic promotion, the grant program seeks to create lasting economic benefits that extend beyond seasonal travel and contribute to continued community growth.
Eligible applicants are encouraged to review the program requirements carefully before submitting their proposals. All completed applications must be received electronically no later than 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2026, for consideration during this funding cycle.
