Since 1983, the Grants Pass Gospel Rescue Mission has been transforming lives for good! From being the first in our community to help guide people out of addiction, poverty, and homelessness to fighting all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States in 2024 for our city’s right to keep parks safe for everyone to enjoy, the Gospel Rescue Mission has always been there. We have helped thousands of people leave homelessness behind and become productive members of our community. For 41 years, we’ve been committed to this mission and, by God’s grace, we intend to continue as long as the need exists. We are thrilled to announce our newest project, MissionView Village.
MissionView Village will consist of 450-square-foot one-bedroom, one-bathroom homes, built to the highest residential construction standards. These homes will be constructed on-site with foundations, shared walls (primarily duplexes), mini-split HVAC systems, washers and dryers, full bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen areas. Our goal is for this project to be a true value-add to the neighborhood, both in terms of its function and its impact on neighboring real estate.
The homes are designed for seniors (55+) who are living on a fixed low income ($1,500/month or less). This demographic is often homeless, living in vehicles, and filled with despair due to the rising costs of the housing market. Many of these individuals are among the participants in the Gospel Rescue Mission program, as finding housing within the community for them can be extremely difficult. For example, when a 60-year-old widow who spent her life as a homemaker, successfully raising her children while her husband worked to pay the bills, now finds herself with nowhere to go and a social security income of less than $1,000 a month, someone needs to take action. These individuals—men and women like her—are our target residents because a vehicle should never serve as a home. MissionView Village is our response to this growing dilemma.
When a participant graduates from the Gospel Rescue Mission program, they are free from addiction, have paid off their debts, developed significant savings, and often own a registered and insured vehicle. If their income comes from employment, it is typically sufficient to compete in the housing market. However, if their income is from SSI, SSDI, or another form of fixed retirement, it is often insufficient. The need is universal: a safe and stable home costing approximately 40% of one’s monthly income. For a single adult, this should leave enough for food, insurance, and a modest amount for savings and luxuries.
As with all that we do, we rely on God’s grace and wisdom, as well as the support of His people, to move such great mountains. We hope that you and your church will commit to praying for this project and, if possible, making a gift to help us bring MissionView Village to life.
