A celebration of compassion and community is set to unfold this Saturday, October 25, as Bras for a Cause takes center stage at the Josephine County Fairgrounds. The event, organized by Soroptimist International of River Valley in Grants Pass, marks its third consecutive year of fundraising for local causes that directly support cancer patients and women’s education.
This year’s fundraiser represents a significant milestone for the small but dedicated nonprofit. With only a dozen active volunteers, the Soroptimist club continues to make a measurable impact on the lives of residents throughout the Rogue Valley. What began modestly in 2023 at the Redwood Grange, raising $9,991, expanded in 2024 to the Bear Hotel, where community generosity pushed donations past $13,000. Now, with the event moving to the larger Floral Building at the fairgrounds, organizers are hopeful this will be their biggest and most successful year yet.
The Bras for a Cause event is known for its creative and lighthearted approach to a deeply meaningful mission. Locals design and display elaborately decorated bras that are auctioned off during the evening, combining humor, artistry, and heartfelt purpose. The funds raised will be split between two primary initiatives: 60 percent will go directly to assist cancer patients in Josephine County, while the remaining 40 percent will support Soroptimist educational scholarships for women striving to improve their lives through higher education or vocational training.
Since its founding, Soroptimist International of River Valley has worked to empower women and girls through access to education and economic opportunity. The club’s members, though few in number, have proven their dedication year after year by organizing events that bring neighbors together for causes that matter. This year’s fundraiser promises to build on that legacy, offering attendees a night of entertainment, community spirit, and heartfelt giving.
Beyond the cause, the event also represents the strength of local partnerships. Many small businesses across Grants Pass have joined in to sponsor and donate goods or services, helping the Soroptimists keep costs low and contributions high. From decorations and catering to raffle prizes and marketing, nearly every element of the evening depends on the generosity of the community.
Event coordinator Elyse Douglas expressed her gratitude to those who make the event possible, noting that their efforts go far beyond financial support. “We could not even begin to do this without our sponsors,” she said, extending a special thank-you to Evergreen Federal Bank for its continued commitment to the cause and its role in helping local organizations thrive.
With excitement building and tickets in high demand, Bras for a Cause promises to be more than just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of resilience, creativity, and compassion in Josephine County. Doors open at the Floral Building on Saturday evening, where attendees will gather not only to bid and cheer but also to honor the lives touched by cancer and the women working toward a brighter future.
