That opportunity comes this Sunday as Grants Pass residents gather at Abby’s Pizza on Williams Highway to support Kyle Summers, whose recovery from a devastating motorcycle crash continues nearly two months after the accident.
Friends, family members, and volunteers will host a community car wash and bake sale on Sunday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with every dollar raised going directly toward Kyle’s growing medical expenses. The fundraiser is intended to help ease the financial burden of his ongoing treatment while offering the community a meaningful way to stand beside him during his recovery.
The fundraiser offers residents an opportunity to support a local family while enjoying homemade baked goods and having their vehicles washed by volunteers who have donated their time for the cause. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend, whether they stop by for a quick visit or spend time showing their support throughout the day.
Kyle’s recovery began after a serious motorcycle collision on May 7 along Table Rock Road in Central Point. According to those close to him, the crash occurred when a pickup truck forced him off the roadway. Although the circumstances left him with multiple traumatic injuries, his properly worn protective riding gear and the swift response of a passing motorist are credited with helping save his life during those critical first moments.
The crash left Kyle with significant injuries, including trauma to his spine, a punctured lung, a broken collarbone, multiple broken ribs, a broken ankle, and extensive bruising throughout his body. He also lost movement in his right leg, creating additional challenges that have made rehabilitation a lengthy and demanding process.
After spending approximately one month receiving treatment at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, Kyle was transferred to Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado, a nationally recognized rehabilitation hospital specializing in spinal cord and neurological injuries. There, he continues to undergo intensive therapy focused on improving mobility, rebuilding strength, and maximizing his recovery.
Friends of Kyle say the physical challenges are only part of the road ahead. Like many families facing unexpected medical emergencies, the financial burden of extended hospitalization, specialized rehabilitation, travel, and ongoing care continues to grow. Sunday’s fundraiser is intended to help ease some of those expenses while reminding Kyle and his loved ones that they are not facing this journey alone.
