Grants Pass is accepting applications for an open position on the city’s Development Code Review Taskforce, giving another community member an opportunity to participate in a review of the rules governing construction and development within the Grants Pass Urban Growth Boundary.
Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, with the City Council scheduled to make the appointment during its Wednesday, Oct. 21 meeting. The person selected will serve for the duration of the taskforce’s work.
The taskforce is examining the Grants Pass Development Code, the collection of local standards and procedures that guide land-use decisions and establish requirements for residential and commercial development. Its work is intended to identify portions of the code that can be simplified, clarified or modernized while evaluating development standards and the city’s land-use process.
The review will ultimately produce a written recommendation to the City Council outlining specific changes for consideration. The stated goal is to reduce ambiguities in the development code and address barriers that can complicate new construction, private investment and development projects within the city’s Urban Growth Boundary.
The taskforce was structured to include participants with professional experience in several areas directly connected to development, along with representation from the general public. Qualifications and backgrounds identified for taskforce membership include licensed civil engineers or architects, local builders, residential developers, commercial developers and at-large citizen representatives.
The current opening is for one position. Because appointments continue for the life of the taskforce rather than for a traditional fixed committee term, the selected applicant would remain involved as the group completes its review and prepares its recommendations for the City Council.
Residents interested in applying can obtain an application from the City Administration Office at 101 N.W. A Street in Grants Pass. Applications may also be submitted through the city’s online committee and commission appointment application.
Completed applications must be received by the city no later than 5 p.m. Sept. 29. The appointment is expected to be made Oct. 21, placing the successful applicant directly into the city’s ongoing examination of how Grants Pass regulates and processes development within its Urban Growth Boundary.
