Grants Pass residents with an interest in trees, conservation, and the long-term health of the city’s landscape have an opportunity to take a more active role in shaping the community’s environmental future. The City of Grants Pass is currently accepting applications to fill a vacancy on its Urban Tree Advisory Committee, a volunteer body dedicated to strengthening and sustaining the city’s urban forest.
The open position carries a term that will run through September 30, 2027. Once appointed, the selected applicant will join fellow committee members in advising the city on matters related to the preservation, enhancement, and thoughtful management of trees within the community. The committee plays an important part in ensuring that Grants Pass continues to meet the standards associated with the Tree City USA program, a national initiative that recognizes municipalities committed to effective urban forest management.
The Urban Tree Advisory Committee’s work centers on reviewing, developing, and helping implement programs and activities designed to promote, protect, and expand the city’s tree canopy. This includes evaluating policies, supporting educational efforts, and encouraging practices that balance development with environmental stewardship. Urban forests contribute significantly to a community’s character and livability, providing shade during hot summer months, improving air quality, reducing stormwater runoff, and enhancing neighborhood aesthetics. Trees also play a role in supporting local wildlife habitats and strengthening overall environmental resilience.
City officials are seeking applicants who demonstrate a clear interest in promoting and enhancing the urban forest. While professional experience in forestry or environmental science may be helpful, the primary qualification outlined for the position is a genuine commitment to the protection and growth of the community’s tree resources. Residents who care about neighborhood beautification, sustainability, and the long-term environmental health of Grants Pass are encouraged to apply.
Applications are available in person at the City Administration Office, located at 101 N.W. A Street in downtown Grants Pass. For those who prefer to apply electronically, the city also offers an online application form here. Completed applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
After the application deadline, the Urban Tree Advisory Committee will review submissions during its meeting scheduled for Monday, April 13, 2026. Final appointments will be made by the Grants Pass City Council at its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
Serving on a city advisory committee offers residents a direct way to participate in local government and contribute to decisions that shape daily life in the community. The Urban Tree Advisory Committee, in particular, provides an avenue for residents to influence policies and initiatives that will affect the appearance and environmental health of Grants Pass for years to come.
As the city continues to grow and evolve, the stewardship of its trees remains a shared responsibility. This open position presents an opportunity for a community member to help ensure that Grants Pass maintains a thriving and sustainable urban forest well into the future.
