Street sweeping crews are moving through Grants Pass neighborhoods this week as the city begins its scheduled maintenance cycle for the period of Monday, Aug. 31, through Friday, Sept. 4.
The City of Grants Pass Public Works Department has scheduled sweeping operations between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. in designated zones throughout the city. Residents whose streets fall within the scheduled areas are being asked to keep vehicles, garbage containers and other movable items off the roadway during the assigned sweeping day.
Clearing the curbside gives municipal crews access to areas where leaves, dirt, gravel, litter and other material accumulate along neighborhood streets. Parked vehicles and garbage containers can prevent sweeping equipment from reaching portions of the roadway, leaving debris behind until another maintenance cycle.
Street sweeping is part of the city’s routine roadway maintenance program and serves purposes beyond neighborhood appearance. Material that collects along curbs can eventually enter storm drains during rainfall, carrying sediment and debris into the municipal drainage system. Regular sweeping removes some of that material before it reaches drainage infrastructure while keeping gutters and roadway edges clear.
Crews are expected to work throughout their assigned areas during the 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. operating window. The schedule does not establish an exact time for individual streets, meaning residents in a designated zone should keep the roadway clear for the entire period rather than moving vehicles back after a sweeper has initially passed through the neighborhood.
The Aug. 31 through Sept. 4 schedule remains subject to change if weather or operating conditions interfere with planned routes. The city typically follows its published sweeping calendar but may adjust individual areas when conditions prevent crews from completing scheduled work.
Residents can assist crews by checking their assigned sweeping zone before parking along the street and relocating vehicles and trash containers before operations begin. Items can be returned to the roadway after the scheduled sweeping period has ended.
