Grants Pass residents looking to learn a new language now have a powerful new tool at their fingertips. The Josephine Community Library has launched Transparent Language Online for Libraries, a comprehensive digital language-learning platform available at no cost to library cardholders.
The new service significantly expands the library’s educational offerings, providing unlimited access to instruction in more than 110 languages. In addition to widely spoken languages such as Spanish, French, and Mandarin, the platform includes courses in less commonly taught languages, as well as English courses tailored for speakers of more than 30 different native languages. The addition reflects the library’s continued investment in accessible, self-paced education for patrons of all ages.
Transparent Language Online is designed to support learners at various skill levels, from beginners to more advanced users. The platform incorporates pronunciation practice supported by speech analysis technology, structured grammar lessons, writing activities, and vocabulary-building exercises. Lessons are accessible through a standard web browser on desktop computers and laptops, as well as through a dedicated mobile app, allowing users to study at home or on the go.
Library leadership describes the transition as both a practical and strategic move. The platform replaces Mango Languages, the previous digital language resource offered by the library. The shift allows the organization to provide a broader range of languages and expanded features while managing costs responsibly. Patrons currently enrolled in Mango Languages courses are encouraged to complete active coursework or download any necessary materials before March 15, when access to that service concludes.
A notable feature of the new platform is Transparent Language Online for Kids, a section developed specifically for younger learners. The children’s component offers interactive, age-appropriate activities designed to make language acquisition engaging and accessible. Through structured games and exercises, children can build vocabulary, practice pronunciation, and strengthen comprehension skills in an environment tailored to early learners.
Access to Transparent Language Online is included with a valid library card, and no additional subscription fee is required. Residents can begin using the service by visiting josephinelibrary.org, navigating to the Education and Research dropdown menu, and selecting Online Learning Resources. From there, users can create an account and begin exploring available courses.
Library access policies remain consistent with existing district guidelines. Residents living within the library district boundary receive library services through property tax support and do not pay an additional fee for a card. Those who live outside the district have several options to obtain access. Individuals may purchase an annual household card for sixty dollars or a quarterly household card for fifteen dollars. Others may qualify by volunteering at least three hours per quarter at any library branch. A free annual household card is also available through sponsorship by the Josephine Community Library Foundation. Property owners may also choose to annex into the library district.
County residents uncertain about their district status can verify eligibility by clicking here and selecting the Learn More option under the Am I in the District section.
With the introduction of Transparent Language Online, Josephine Community Library continues to expand its digital offerings, positioning itself as a central resource for lifelong learning across Southern Oregon.
