Today marks a milestone for dozens of hardworking young people in Josephine County as the 2025 4TheKids Livestock Auction kicks off at the Josephine County Fairgrounds. Hosted in partnership with the Grants Pass Active Club, the event is the culmination of months of dedication, early mornings, and hands-on learning for local youth who have raised livestock through programs like 4-H and FFA.
Set to begin at 6:00 p.m., this year’s auction promises to be a lively and rewarding evening for participants and supporters alike. Held annually, the livestock auction not only highlights the agricultural roots of the region but also offers a platform for youth to showcase their skills in animal husbandry, budgeting, time management, and community engagement. These young exhibitors have spent the better part of the year raising pigs, lambs, goats, and cattle—often balancing these responsibilities with school, sports, and other extracurricular activities.
Local residents, business owners, and community leaders are expected to fill the stands this evening in a show of support that goes far beyond bidding. Purchasing an animal at the auction is more than just buying meat—it’s an investment in the next generation and a vote of confidence in the youth of Josephine County. The funds raised by each young participant often go toward future agricultural projects, college savings, or family needs.
The event is also made possible thanks to support from local sponsors. Grants Pass Active Club, a long-standing organization known for championing youth initiatives, has once again taken a leading role in ensuring this tradition continues. Their involvement reinforces their commitment to developing responsible, hardworking youth through positive community engagement. Dinner for attendees is being provided by Cartwright’s Valley Meat Co., a local staple that continues to support events rooted in tradition and agriculture.
