In an era when music genres often exist in separate corners of the entertainment world, a new creative collective is taking a different approach by bringing those worlds together. Riverside Souls is emerging as a collaborative music and storytelling project that blends artists, influences, and life experiences into a single creative platform built on authenticity, redemption, and human connection.
Rather than functioning as a traditional band, Riverside Souls operates as a creative collective where multiple voices, backgrounds, and artistic styles intersect. Hip hop, rock, alternative, country, cinematic soundscapes, and spoken-word storytelling all find a place within the project’s evolving identity. The result is a musical collaboration designed to cross generational, cultural, and stylistic boundaries while creating space for artists from different walks of life to contribute their own perspectives.
At the center of the project is Robert Brown, known professionally as B~Style, whose personal journey serves as one of the foundations of Riverside Souls. Born and raised in Missouri, Brown’s life took a dramatic turn after serving time in prison. Following his release, he relocated to Oregon in 2008 with a commitment to rebuilding his future through music, entrepreneurship, and creative expression.
Over the years, Brown established himself within the West Coast hip hop community, earning recognition that included a West Coast Hip Hop Award and collaborations with artists such as Snoop Dogg, WC, Keak da Sneak, Lil Flip, Mac Duna, and the Unconventional Kingz. Yet despite his roots in hip hop, Brown has consistently resisted being defined by a single genre.
His songwriting frequently explores themes of struggle, faith, personal growth, redemption, and resilience. Those themes have become central to Riverside Souls, where personal experiences are transformed into stories intended to resonate with listeners facing challenges of their own.
Adding another dimension to the collective is Nick Benson, whose creative background spans more than three decades in both music and film. A Los Angeles native, Benson developed an early fascination with horror films, science fiction, practical effects, and visual storytelling. That passion led him into careers that crossed multiple creative industries.
Benson’s music career includes touring with the legendary British Batcave band Specimen during its final U.S. tour in the late 1980s, co-founding and writing music for the influential goth group London After Midnight, collaborating with industrial rock pioneers 16Volt, and helping launch RollCall Records. His work with Das Industry produced projects that gained airplay and recognition throughout the West Coast music scene during the 1990s.
Beyond music, Benson’s film résumé includes work on cult classics and genre favorites such as Night of the Demons, Dead Heat, The Blob, A Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master, and Society. His experience working with major special effects studios and contributing to visually driven productions has helped shape the cinematic atmosphere Riverside Souls hopes to bring to its music and future visual projects.
Completing the trio is Nik Martin, whose path into Riverside Souls began largely behind the scenes. For years, Martin worked in artist management, promotion, event booking, marketing, and audience development, helping musicians grow their careers and connect with fans.
More recently, Martin has stepped into the creative spotlight himself, pursuing songwriting, guitar, and vocal performance. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, mental health challenges, perseverance, and self-discovery, he views music as a tool for healing and meaningful connection.
That philosophy has become a guiding principle for the collective as a whole.
Members of Riverside Souls describe the project as an artistic space without creative boundaries, where collaboration is encouraged and individual stories become part of a larger narrative. The group’s vision centers on the belief that art can unite people regardless of age, background, geography, or musical preference.
In many ways, Riverside Souls reflects a modern evolution of collaborative music culture. Rather than focusing on a single sound or audience, the collective embraces diversity of style and perspective, creating opportunities for different artists and storytellers to contribute to an expanding creative universe.
As Riverside Souls prepares to release its debut single across major streaming platforms, the project is positioning itself as more than a musical act. It is an experiment in collaboration, a platform for personal expression, and a reminder that some of the most compelling stories emerge when different voices come together to create something larger than themselves.
