College applications, scholarship opportunities and the next step toward a degree will bring students and families to White City on Friday, October 23, when the Southern Oregon College Fair gathers representatives from more than 50 colleges and universities at Rogue Community College.
The free event runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in Building A at RCC’s Table Rock Campus, 7800 Pacific Highway. Organized by the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling, the fair brings public and private institutions from across the region and beyond into one location for direct conversations with prospective students.
High school students preparing for college can meet admissions representatives and compare academic programs, campus settings and application requirements. Current college students considering a transfer can explore where to continue their education and discuss the admissions process at institutions offering their intended degrees. Parents, family members and others supporting students are also welcome.
Scholarship opportunities will be among the subjects students can discuss with participating schools. With representatives available throughout the morning, families can ask about educational options and gather information from several institutions during a single visit.
The fair offers students an opportunity to examine colleges beyond the names already on their application lists. Conversations with representatives can help them explore programs connected to their interests, learn about unfamiliar campuses and identify questions that need further attention before choosing a school.
For students already enrolled in college, the event provides access to representatives who can discuss transfer options. Those conversations can help students begin comparing potential destinations as they plan the remainder of their undergraduate education.
Lane Community College is among the institutions listing the Southern Oregon fair on its recruitment schedule. The White City gathering follows college fairs scheduled during the same week in Eugene, Redmond and Roseburg, bringing the regional recruitment circuit to Southern Oregon before the weekend.
Advance registration is available through StriveScan, but it is not required for admission. Students who create a free profile receive a digital barcode they can share with college representatives. Scanning the barcode allows participating institutions to collect contact information and provide additional materials after the fair, giving students a way to continue conversations begun on campus.
The morning schedule gives attendees two and a half hours to visit representatives and compare schools. Students arriving with questions about their intended field of study, admissions requirements, scholarships or transfer plans can use those conversations to gather information specific to their circumstances.
RCC Admissions & Recruitment can provide additional event information at 541-956-7217. Students and families may attend without registering in advance.
