The 2024 Citizen’s Police Academy is Now Accepting Applications
The Grants Pass Police Department is excited to announce its 3rd annual Citizen’s Police Academy, set to begin on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024. This 12-week program aims to educate the public about the department’s operations and foster a deeper connection between citizens and officers.
The Citizen’s Police Academy offers a unique opportunity for approximately 25 community members to engage with law enforcement in an interactive setting. Attendance is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply promptly to secure their spot.
Participants in the academy will receive comprehensive instruction on various aspects of police work, including:
- Department history and hiring process
- Community policing and department tours
- Criminal law, search and seizure, and arrest procedures
- Ethics and roles of Community Service Officers
- Gang and youth-related issues
- Patrol procedures and traffic enforcement
- Firearms handling and high-risk car stops
- Defensive tactics and officer survival techniques
- Crime scene investigations and processing
- Crime prevention and drug and alcohol enforcement
- Dispatch operations, K-9 units, and drone usage
- CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and technical rescue
- Auxiliary volunteers and RADE (Rogue Area Drug Enforcement)
- Polygraph, negotiations, and SWAT team response
This engaging and informative program aims to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the challenges and responsibilities faced by the Grants Pass Police Department. By fostering this connection, the department hopes to build stronger community relations and enhance public safety.
