The Grants Pass Tribune recently sat down with Sara Deanna, the founder of Elevate with Sara, to take a closer look at a growing wellness effort that is quietly making its way into workplaces and senior communities across Southern Oregon. What began as a personal journey into movement and mindfulness has developed into a practical, community focused approach to health, one designed to meet people where they are and fit seamlessly into their everyday lives.
The concept behind Elevate with Sara is rooted in personal experience. Sara’s introduction to yoga was not driven by a professional goal, but by curiosity and a desire for physical activity. What she found extended beyond movement. “I came for the exercise, but discovered it helped me slow down, manage stress, and reconnect with myself in ways I didn’t know I needed.” That realization became the foundation for a business centered on helping others experience similar benefits without the barriers that often come with traditional wellness programs.
Rather than opening a studio and asking clients to come to her, Sara chose a different path. Her services are delivered directly into workplaces and senior living environments, eliminating many of the obstacles that prevent consistent participation. This approach is intentional. Accessibility, both physical and practical, is at the center of her model.
Elevate with Sara focuses on two primary areas, workplace wellness and chair yoga for seniors. Each is designed with a specific population in mind, but both share the same underlying principle, that wellness should be simple, realistic, and sustainable.
In workplace settings, Sara’s sessions are structured to fit within the existing rhythm of the workday. Employees are not required to leave the building, change clothes, or carve out additional time. The sessions typically last around thirty minutes and are designed to reduce physical tension, improve focus, and provide a mental reset during the day. “Workplace sessions are designed to fit seamlessly into the workday, using gentle movement, stretching, and quick resets to ease physical tension, reduce stress, and improve focus.”
This model addresses a common challenge for working adults. Long hours, sedentary routines, and ongoing stress often make it difficult to maintain consistent self care habits. By integrating wellness into the work environment, Sara removes the need for additional planning, allowing participants to benefit without adding another obligation to their schedule.
For seniors, the approach is equally thoughtful, but tailored to different needs. Traditional fitness classes can be inaccessible or intimidating for older adults, particularly those dealing with limited mobility or chronic conditions. Chair yoga provides an alternative that emphasizes safety, adaptability, and individual comfort.
“I offer chair yoga for seniors that supports mobility, balance, and overall well being in a format that is fully accessible and tailored to each individual.” These sessions require minimal space and equipment, often nothing more than chairs and a small open area. The simplicity allows programs to be implemented easily within senior centers and living facilities across the region.
A typical session begins with a brief period of settling in, followed by guided movement and breathing exercises designed to release tension and encourage awareness. While the physical benefits are noticeable, including improved strength, balance, and flexibility, Sara has also observed meaningful emotional and social changes among participants.
“The seniors I work with have been loving the sessions. Many have mentioned feeling stronger and lighter.” She noted that some participants have even seen measurable improvements, including increased core strength observed by outside health professionals. Beyond that, the sessions create opportunities for connection, offering a shared experience that encourages conversation and engagement among participants.
The workplace environment shows a different, but equally important, set of outcomes. Employees often report reduced stress and improved concentration following sessions. Because the movements and techniques are simple and repeatable, participants can carry what they learn into the rest of their day, extending the benefit beyond the scheduled time.
Sara’s work also challenges a broader misconception about health and wellness. Many people view movement and mindfulness as optional, something to pursue only when time allows. Her perspective is that these practices are essential for maintaining long term physical and mental health.
“We carry stress and tension in our bodies whether we acknowledge it or not, and over time that accumulation affects everything.” By incorporating even small amounts of movement and awareness into a regular routine, individuals can begin to reduce that buildup and improve their overall well being.
Consistency, rather than intensity, is the guiding principle. Sara emphasizes that even a single session each week can create a noticeable difference. Over time, those small efforts build into lasting habits that support better health outcomes.
While many wellness services are moving toward digital platforms and remote access, Sara has chosen to focus on in person interaction. Her experience has shown that direct engagement creates a stronger sense of accountability and connection, elements that are difficult to replicate through a screen.
“After eight years of teaching, one thing is clear, yoga and mindful movement land differently in person.” Rather than expanding outward through online offerings, she is concentrating on strengthening her presence within the Rogue Valley, building relationships with local organizations, businesses, and senior communities.
For those considering their first session, Sara emphasizes that there are no prerequisites. Participants do not need prior experience, flexibility, or specialized equipment. The goal is not performance, but participation.
“You don’t need any experience, flexibility, or special clothes, just show up.” That simplicity reflects the broader mission of Elevate with Sara, to make wellness approachable and achievable for people in their everyday lives.
As the demand for practical, accessible health solutions continues to grow, this locally rooted approach is finding its place in Southern Oregon. By removing barriers and focusing on consistency, Sara Deanna is building a model that aligns with how people actually live, offering a form of wellness that is not aspirational, but attainable.
