A Greater Applegate, partnering with Applegate Evening Concerts, has advanced to the public voting phase for a national grant that could expand free live music in the Applegate Valley for three consecutive years. The organizations are among 100 finalists for the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant, a program designed to help nonprofits in small and mid-sized communities activate public spaces through professional, no-cost outdoor concerts.
If selected, the Applegate effort could receive up to $120,000 between 2026 and 2028. The funding model awards $40,000 per year for three years to each recipient, with the Levitt Foundation planning to support up to 50 U.S.-based nonprofits in the upcoming cycle. Local organizers say the proposal would underwrite ten free, high-quality outdoor concerts each year at The Lindsay Lodge beginning in 2026, creating a recurring platform for live performances while reducing financial barriers for audiences.
The Levitt AMP initiative emphasizes community-building as much as entertainment. While the proposed series focuses on music, the underlying goal is to draw residents and visitors into shared public spaces on a regular basis, where repeated attendance can strengthen social connections and provide reliable access to arts and culture. In rural areas such as the Applegate Valley, these effects can be especially pronounced, as free programming lowers the threshold for participation and can engage a broad cross-section of the community, from families to older adults and new residents.
Local organizers describe the concerts as both a cultural asset and a resilience strategy. Regular, free events provide a predictable gathering point, highlight regional talent alongside touring artists, and encourage repeat visits that benefit surrounding businesses. Hosting the series at The Lindsay Lodge also centralizes attendance at a single venue, which can simplify logistics, create a consistent audience experience, and help performers plan for the acoustics and staging typical of outdoor shows.
The public vote will help determine which finalists receive funding. Voting opens on Friday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time and closes on Monday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Individuals may support up to five communities in total, allowing voters to signal interest across multiple finalists while still boosting their local choice. Votes can be cast online at levitt.org/vote or by texting APPLEGATE to 877-409-5525. Organizers encourage early participation to ensure that local support is recorded before the deadline.
Advancing to the voting round reflects a competitive national review and positions the Applegate proposal for further consideration based on community interest. Should the grant be awarded, the three-year horizon provides a stable funding runway that can help with artist bookings, production planning, volunteer coordination, and outreach to schools and community groups. It also enables A Greater Applegate and Applegate Evening Concerts to establish an annual calendar, giving audiences time to plan attendance and helping local partners align complementary activities.
Residents who wish to participate in the decision can do so during the September 5–15 window. The final slate of grant recipients will be determined after votes are tallied and the Levitt Foundation completes its selection process for the 2026–2028 music series cycle.
