Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass is elevating patient care through the integration of groundbreaking technologies aimed at improving outcomes for cancer patients and advancing surgical precision. The hospital recently unveiled two major innovations: a state-of-the-art linear accelerator at the Helen K. Spears Cancer Center and the region’s most advanced da Vinci Surgical System.
The new linear accelerator, nearly fully funded through community donations, is poised to revolutionize cancer care in the region. This advanced radiotherapy device delivers precise treatments that target cancerous tumors, significantly reducing treatment timelines for patients.
“This new technology will dramatically reduce treatment timelines for patients, as well as meet the growing demand for these services throughout our region,” said Dr. Mujahid Rizvi, Heimann Medical Chair of Oncology and Medical Director for Asante Cancer Centers. “This means a better experience for our patients during a challenging time in their lives.”
The community recently celebrated the arrival of the TrueBeam linear accelerator with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by donors and hospital staff.
“It’s remarkable to see how our community’s support helped bring this vision to life,” said Andrea Reeder, Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer for Asante. “These gifts enabled us to expand access and enhance the lives of the 2,000+ people in our region who face cancer every year.”
In addition to advancements in cancer care, Three Rivers Medical Center has introduced the latest da Vinci Surgical System, making it only the second hospital in Oregon to adopt this technology. The system establishes a robotics surgery program at Three Rivers, enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision and minimally invasive techniques.
“Introducing a robotics surgery program at Three Rivers represents a significant step forward in how we can serve our community,” said Patrick Sharp, CEO of Asante Three Rivers Medical Center. “This enables us to perform complex procedures with greater precision and shorter recovery times, allowing our patients to heal faster and return to their lives sooner. We’re proud to bring this advancement to Josephine County and beyond, ensuring access to the best possible care close to home.”
The integration of the linear accelerator and da Vinci Surgical System highlights Asante’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services in southern Oregon. By improving access to full-service cancer treatment and minimally invasive surgeries, the hospital is addressing critical health needs in the community.
These advancements are a testament to the power of community collaboration and the hospital’s dedication to providing cutting-edge care. The new technologies are expected to benefit over 2,000 cancer patients annually and expand surgical options for countless others.
