Washington, DC, – The United States is poised to allocate a substantial budgetary support of $11.8 billion to Ukraine, focusing on bolstering the country’s economy amid ongoing wartime conditions, as reported by Reuters.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen assured Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal of the U.S. administration’s intention to provide $11.8 billion in budgetary support to Kyiv. These funds are designated to cover Ukrainian government expenditures and offer economic assistance to the country during wartime conditions. In a statement released after their meeting, the U.S. Treasury emphasized Yellen’s emphasis on the urgency of Congress taking swift action on financial support for Ukraine.
The U.S. expresses hope that other nations will also step forward to aid Ukraine. Estimates suggest that donor countries are expected to fulfill approximately three-quarters of Ukraine’s external financing needs in 2024, providing crucial support for government operations, including hospitals, schools, and emergency services.
The U.S. Treasury highlighted the interconnectedness of financial support with Ukraine’s success on the battlefield, emphasizing its demonstration of the commitment of the U.S. and its allies to safeguard the territorial sovereignty and freedoms of democratic nations.
The Treasury Department further stated, “Providing financial support to Ukraine is seen as instrumental in helping the country achieve success in the war, ultimately advancing U.S. national security interests on a global scale.”
