In a recent speech, President Joe Biden outlined new measures aimed at improving the management of the U.S. border and immigration system. The President emphasized the need for a balanced approach, ensuring that the system can effectively handle the number of people attempting to enter the country legally.
President Biden highlighted that the new order mandates individuals to remain in place until the system can adequately process their applications. This measure is part of a broader effort to make the immigration process more efficient and secure. The administration aims to deliver decisions as quickly as possible, reducing the likelihood that migrants will resort to dangerous journeys and criminal smugglers.
In addition, the Department of Justice has initiated a new docket in immigration courts to expedite cases involving recent border crossers, with a goal of resolving these cases within six months instead of the current average of six years.
The administration is also targeting criminal networks that profit from smuggling migrants. Efforts include incentivizing the public to provide tips that could lead to the apprehension and prosecution of smugglers. Additional federal prosecutors are being deployed to hotspot areas to support these initiatives.
These actions represent a significant shift in U.S. immigration policy, focusing on both improving legal entry processes and cracking down on illegal smuggling operations. Unfortunately for most American’s citizens this action is a little too late, and rather a political stunt than a sincere action.
