Silicon Valley may be synonymous with software startups, but one of the nation’s more persistent private-company growth stories has been unfolding far from the country’s major technology centers, in a Southern Oregon community better known for the Rogue River than the technology industry.
Rentec Direct, the Grants Pass property management software company founded in 2007, has earned a place on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies for the 10th consecutive year. Reaching the list once can mark a significant period of growth for a private business. Remaining there for a decade places Rentec Direct in considerably rarer company.
Only 110 businesses nationwide have made the Inc. 5000 at least 10 times, according to information released by Rentec Direct. Just three Oregon companies have reached that milestone, and Rentec Direct is the only one headquartered outside the Portland metropolitan area.
Behind that national distinction is nearly two decades of building a software company from Grants Pass while maintaining independent ownership and keeping its operations rooted in Southern Oregon. Rentec Direct provides property management software and tenant screening services to landlords and professional property managers across the country, offering tools ranging from online rent collection and accounting to tenant portals, mobile services and rental-property advertising.
The company’s latest financial figures show that growth has continued. Rentec Direct reported a 40 percent increase in revenue during the three-year period measured for the 2026 Inc. 5000, accompanied by an 18 percent increase in employment.
The longer-term numbers provide a broader picture of what the company’s decade on the national ranking has meant locally. During those 10 years, Rentec Direct reports generating more than $93 million in revenue while remaining headquartered in Southern Oregon. The company says nearly $46 million in profits were reinvested into the local economy during the same period.
Its workforce has increased by 80 percent over the decade, reaching 20 employees. More than half of the employees who worked for Rentec Direct 10 years ago remain with the company today, while its nationwide customer base has increased by 116 percent.
Rentec Direct also reports contributing approximately $118,000 to charitable causes through community sponsorships, donations and fundraising efforts during its decade of Inc. 5000 appearances.
For founder and CEO Nathan Miller, remaining in Grants Pass while building a company with a national customer base has become part of the business’s identity.
“We’ve proven that companies don’t have to be headquartered in a major technology hub or metro area to build something meaningful,” Miller said. “Innovative companies can thrive anywhere, and we’re proud to have built a nationally recognized software company from our hometown of Grants Pass.”
Miller said the company’s latest achievement represents more than its financial performance.
“This milestone is about more than growth—it’s about building a lasting company that continues to create value for our customers, employees and community,” he said.
Rentec Direct is among 43 Oregon companies included in the 2026 Inc. 5000. Collectively, those businesses generated approximately $2.5 billion in revenue and employ more than 9,750 people. The Oregon companies appearing on this year’s ranking recorded a median growth rate of 149 percent.
Inc. Editor-in-Chief Mike Hofman said companies reaching the annual ranking have demonstrated more than revenue gains.
“Every company on the Inc. 5000 has a story of perseverance, smart decision-making and a refusal to sit still,” Hofman said. “Their growth rate reflects more than strong financial performance—it reflects creativity, resilience and the customer focus required to build companies that make a lasting impact.”
The Inc. 5000 has become one of the country’s better-known measures of growth among privately held businesses. Previous companies appearing on Inc.’s rankings during earlier stages of their development have included Microsoft, Meta, Chobani and Patagonia.
Rentec Direct’s latest recognition adds to several national honors for the Grants Pass company. It was named Real Estate Company of the Year in the 2026 American Business Awards and has also been recognized among the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Top 100 Small Businesses.
For a company that began in Grants Pass and chose to remain there as its customer base expanded across the country, the 10th Inc. 5000 appearance represents an unusual combination of national reach and local permanence. Nearly 20 years after its founding, Rentec Direct remains independently owned, employs its team from Southern Oregon and continues building technology for customers nationwide from the community where the company started.
