The City of Grants Pass is now accepting applications for an in-person Associate Planner position within its Community Development Department, offering an opportunity for a qualified professional to play a key role in shaping the city’s land use and growth policies. This vital role supports the city’s efforts in managing development, maintaining regulatory standards, and guiding the physical and aesthetic design of the community.
The Associate Planner will be tasked with overseeing land development proposals from concept to completion. Responsibilities include conducting policy research, preparing detailed staff reports, reviewing designs, presenting findings to decision-making bodies, and drafting new ordinances and resolutions. The role also involves direct interaction with developers, contractors, and residents, requiring a candidate who is as comfortable speaking at public meetings as they are interpreting zoning codes or writing regulatory documentation.
Ideal candidates should be team-oriented, solutions-driven, and possess excellent customer service and writing skills. Successful applicants will bring a thoughtful approach to planning, along with the ability to navigate complex land use issues while engaging the public and stakeholders with professionalism.
To qualify, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in city planning, community development, or a closely related field. At least two years of experience in government-related land use planning is required. Alternatively, applicants may be considered if they have a combination of education and experience deemed sufficient to carry out the responsibilities of the position as outlined in the official job description.
In addition to professional credentials, applicants must possess a valid Oregon Class C driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
As part of the Community Development team, the Associate Planner will contribute to projects that shape the future of Grants Pass—from neighborhood design and commercial development to long-range planning initiatives and zoning updates. The position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible impact on the built environment while working within a collaborative municipal structure.
This is an in-person position based in Grants Pass, and candidates are encouraged to review the complete job description before applying.
