The City of Grants Pass is inviting residents to attend the upcoming City Council meeting on January 15, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 101 NW A Street. This is an important opportunity for community members to voice their opinions on various city matters, including significant resolutions and appointments that will impact the future of Grants Pass.
The meeting’s agenda includes several notable items, with a key focus on the Water Treatment Plant replacement project. A resolution will be discussed that would authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Slayden Construction Group Inc. for Phase 2 services relating to this project. This is an essential infrastructure project for the city, and public input on its progression is encouraged.
Other agenda items involve the appointment of members to important city committees. The Council will vote on motions to appoint two members to the Committee on Public Art, two members to the Budget Committee, and seven members to the Public Safety Advisory Committee. Residents interested in shaping the city’s approach to public art, budgeting, and public safety are especially encouraged to attend and provide their perspectives.
Public comment will be an essential part of the meeting, offering a platform for residents to address the City Council on issues not directly related to the items on the agenda. Each speaker will be allowed two minutes to speak as a body, with the expectation that comments remain courteous and constructive. Disruptive behavior, including the use of signs, placards, or personal attacks, will not be tolerated, as the goal is to foster an environment of respectful dialogue.
In addition to these discussions, the City Council will also address a variety of consent agenda items that will help further city projects and initiatives. These include resolutions authorizing contracts with Pacific Power for the installation of utilities for the Water Treatment Plant and contracts for stormwater and sewer replacements. The Council will also consider amending the City Engineer Master Services Agreement and submitting an application for a Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant.
Labor contracts for the Grants Pass Police Association will also be reviewed, with resolutions concerning three-year agreements for both the general association and the Sergeants. Adjustments to the Comprehensive Fee Schedule will be discussed, and the City Council will accept certified election results from the November 2024 general election.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the City Council will adjourn and convene a meeting of the Urban Renewal Agency, followed by further public matters and staff comments. The meeting will then reconvene with additional updates from the Mayor and Council members.
Citizens are also encouraged to participate remotely. Those wishing to make a public comment by phone should contact the City Recorder by noon on the day of the meeting. Registered participants will be sent the meeting details, including the Teams meeting ID and phone number, by 3 p.m. on January 15.
This meeting offers a valuable opportunity for residents to engage directly with their local government. Whether you have thoughts on public safety, infrastructure, or upcoming appointments, the City of Grants Pass welcomes your input.
