Grants Pass audiences will soon have the chance to step behind the curtain of the creative process as Clarion Theatre Company launches its fall fundraising event, Let’s Make a Scene! A Revue of Seven New Works in Progress. Scheduled for November 8, 9, and 16 at Calvary Crossroads Church, the showcase highlights the work of seven local playwrights and songwriters while offering the community an opportunity to help shape the future of the theater’s productions.
The revue is designed to give audiences a first look at original material still in development. From the stage will come glimpses of diverse characters ranging from a conflicted princess to a contemporary surgeon and even a priestly elf, each drawn from different stories written by Southern Oregon creators. With these early performances, Clarion hopes to build excitement for full-length productions planned for the years ahead.
A cast of 11 performers will take on the challenge of bringing these unfinished works to life. Many of the cast members, as well as some of the crew, will be familiar faces to local theatergoers who have attended previous Clarion productions or other musical events in the area. The troupe’s mission is to blend humor and heartfelt storytelling, aiming to leave audiences both laughing and moved during the three-afternoon run.
What sets this event apart from a standard performance is the interactive role of the audience. Attendees will be invited to support their favorite piece by contributing financially to the show of their choice. The work that receives the strongest backing will be developed into a full-scale production for Clarion’s 2026 season. This “vote with your pocketbook” approach allows community members to play a direct role in determining which story makes the leap from concept to mainstage performance.
The event also serves as an important fundraiser for Clarion Theatre Company, a nonprofit group committed to developing original theatrical works and providing opportunities for local talent. Admission is set at $20 for adults when purchased in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets for children under 12 are available for $12. Desserts and drinks will be offered by donation, adding to the community-centered atmosphere.
Calvary Crossroads Church, located at 1051 SE M Street in Grants Pass, will host all three performances. Each show begins at 3 p.m., making it accessible for families and audiences of all ages. The mid-November dates give residents the chance to enjoy live performance during a quieter season for local arts programming.
Organizers emphasize that the revue reflects Clarion’s ongoing dedication to fostering creativity and collaboration in Southern Oregon. By pairing original writing with audience participation, Let’s Make a Scene extends beyond simple entertainment to become an experiment in community-driven theater. For those who attend, the event offers a rare opportunity to witness the earliest stages of storytelling and to influence which stories ultimately make it to a full-scale stage production.
