WASHINGTON — Federal prosecutors on Tuesday urged a judge to reject Hunter Biden’s motion to dismiss the gun charges against him, citing the discovery of cocaine residue on the pouch used to store his gun. The prosecutors emphasized the strength of the evidence against President Joe Biden’s son, countering Hunter Biden’s assertions of being targeted for political reasons.
In their argument for proceeding with the case, prosecutors pointed to “overwhelming” evidence and refuted Hunter Biden’s claims of political bias. They highlighted incriminating statements about drug use from Hunter Biden’s 2021 memoir and revealed the presence of a white powdery substance, identified as cocaine by an FBI chemist, on the brown leather pouch where he stored the gun obtained from the state police vault last year.
Prosecutors emphasized, “To be clear, investigators found drugs on the pouch where the defendant had kept his gun.”
Hunter Biden, who pleaded not guilty to charges related to alleged false statements on a gun purchase form in October 2018, maintained his innocence. The charges allege that he lied about his drug use during the specified period. While Hunter Biden acknowledged struggling with crack cocaine addiction in 2018, his defense contends that he did not violate the law. Hunter Biden has publicly stated that he has ceased using drugs and has actively worked to make positive changes in his life.
