(Grants Pass, OR) – This Sunday, community members are coming together to help restore Baker Park to its former beauty following the recent floods. The event will take place at 2:00 p.m., with volunteers asked to gather no earlier than 1:45 p.m. at the park’s entrance off Park Street. This cleanup effort is a chance for locals to join forces, make a tangible difference, and show their love for the parks that enhance the community.
The recent flooding left significant debris scattered across the park, including along the trees and pathways. To address this, organizers are encouraging anyone who can spare an hour to lend a hand. “Safety in numbers” is the motto of the day, and volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome.
Supplies such as grabbers, gloves, and garbage bags will be provided, ensuring everyone is equipped to safely and efficiently tackle the debris. Volunteers are reminded to wear sturdy boots, as the park may still be muddy in some areas. For those with limited mobility or requiring assistance, efforts will also focus on accessible areas like the boat ramp and the park’s main path.
“This is more than just a cleanup effort,” organizers stated. “It’s about coming together as a community to make our city beautiful again. Our parks are a vital part of what makes Grants Pass such a special place to live, and we need your help to keep them that way.”
The event will kick off with a brief 15-minute meeting to discuss safety tips, provide instructions, and outline the day’s goals. The cleanup is expected to last no longer than an hour, making it a small time commitment with a big impact.
For first-time participants, there’s an extra incentive to join: all newcomers will be awarded a Grants Pass Park Watch pin as a token of appreciation for their efforts. It’s a great way to commemorate the experience while also contributing to a cause that benefits the entire community.
“This is a great opportunity to enjoy time outdoors, meet new people, and take pride in helping clean up our beloved park,” organizers said. “Whether you’ve been part of a cleanup before or this is your first time, your participation matters.”
So, mark your calendar and join in on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Let’s come together to restore Baker Park and show just how much we care about keeping Grants Pass beautiful. Your time and effort will make a meaningful difference, not just for the park but for the entire community.
