Drivers who regularly travel along Conklin Avenue should prepare for a temporary change in routine beginning Tuesday, February 17, 2026. City officials have announced that Conklin Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Evelyn Avenue and Midland Avenue to allow for a sewer main replacement project.
The closure is scheduled to be in effect weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is expected to continue through Thursday, June 9, 2026. During construction hours, only local access will be permitted within the affected stretch. Residents who live along Conklin Avenue between Evelyn and Midland will still be able to reach their homes, but general through traffic will not be allowed.
The sewer main replacement is part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance intended to improve reliability and prevent future system failures. Aging underground utility lines can pose significant risks if not addressed, including service disruptions and costly emergency repairs. By completing the project in a planned and controlled manner, crews aim to strengthen the area’s wastewater system and minimize long-term inconvenience.
Clearly marked detours will be in place to guide motorists around the closure. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes whenever possible, especially during peak hours. Commuters who typically use Conklin Avenue as a connector between Evelyn and Midland may experience delays as traffic shifts to neighboring streets.
Emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through the work zone as needed, ensuring that public safety services remain fully accessible throughout the duration of the project.
Officials are asking for patience from residents, businesses, and travelers while construction is underway. While the temporary closure may cause short-term inconvenience, the improvements are intended to support the long-term integrity of the city’s sewer infrastructure.
