Exciting progress is underway at Dollar Mountain as the much-anticipated trail construction project moves forward. Crews are currently working hard to prepare the trails for optimal conditions, but the public’s cooperation is crucial to ensure the new trails are completed to the highest standards.
At this stage, the trails are fresh, with soft surfaces that are still being shaped and compacted. The contractors are preparing the trail surfacing in anticipation of the rainy season, which will help naturally pack the dirt and create a more durable and user-friendly path. However, the soft texture of the new trails is especially vulnerable to damage from footprints, bike tracks, and motor-powered vehicles. To protect the integrity of the trails and avoid costly repairs or future closures for maintenance, officials are asking all trail users to stay off the newly constructed areas until they are officially open.
The current phase of the project involves approximately five miles of new trails located on the east side of Dollar Mountain, accessible from the Hieglen Loop. These trails are still under construction and closed to all forms of travel, including hiking, biking, and horseback riding. All closed areas will be clearly marked, and the community is asked to respect these closures to allow for the completion of the work without delays.
