The City of Grants Pass has announced an extension of its popular Tree Canopy Program, giving residents until December 1, 2025, to apply for the fall and winter planting season. This initiative offers homeowners an affordable and environmentally friendly way to enhance their neighborhoods while contributing to the city’s long-term sustainability goals.
For a $50 fee, city staff will plant a tree in the planting strip or within the Public Right-of-Way, including eligible side yards along public streets—such as those found on corner lots. The program provides a convenient opportunity for residents to beautify their property, improve air quality, and help maintain a healthier urban canopy throughout Grants Pass.
Participation is open to all city residents, but trees are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis pending application approval. Interested participants are encouraged to apply soon to secure their spot before the deadline. The program has been well received in previous years, with dozens of residents taking part to help shade sidewalks, enhance curb appeal, and create a more vibrant city landscape.
The City’s Urban Forestry team oversees the selection and planting process, ensuring that tree species are well-suited for each specific location. By offering this program each fall, the City promotes responsible planting practices and supports Grants Pass’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
Applications and additional information about the program can be found online through the City of Grants Pass website. For questions or guidance about eligibility or site preparation, residents may email tree@grantspassoregon.gov.
With the extension in place, now is the perfect time for homeowners to invest in their community’s green future—one tree at a time.
