(WILDFIRE UPDATE)
Firefighters battling the Upper Applegate Fire, located south of Ruch, made significant progress overnight. The containment lines have now reached 70% directly lined, leaving 30% indirectly lined. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity allowed for strategic firing operations, helping to bridge the gap between the fire’s edge and the indirect lines on the north end. This methodical work strengthens the buffer between the fire and nearby homes.
As of this morning, the fire covers 937 acres, with 15% of the area mopped up. Daytime resources will continue mop-up operations, aided by infrared (IR) camera scans conducted during the night. These scans identified hidden hot spots, enabling daytime crews to focus their efforts more effectively.
The aircraft fleet includes two Type 1 and two Type 2 helicopters for water drops, along with a Type 3 helicopter coordinating air operations. Additional aircraft will be requested if necessary, but the current fleet has been sufficient.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has issued a closure order for BLM-managed lands in the fire area, including Grouse Creek Road. However, Little Applegate Road and Applegate Lake remain open, though fire crews are operating nearby. Drivers are urged to follow reduced speed limits and be cautious of fire-related traffic, especially in the Provolt area on Highway 238.
Evacuation orders remain active, as directed by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson County Emergency Management. Zone JAC-434 is under a Level 1 (Be Ready) notice, and Zone JAC-436 is at Level 2 (Be Set). Detailed zone information is available at protect.genasys.com.
