The City of Grants Pass Fire Department has expanded its fleet with the addition of a state-of-the-art Pierce Impel fire engine, officially placed into service at 10:00 a.m. today at the Parkway Fire Station. The arrival of this new apparatus marks a significant investment in public safety and emergency response capabilities for both the city and surrounding rural areas.
The Pierce Impel represents the latest in modern fire service technology, designed to meet the evolving demands of emergency response. Equipped with a 750-gallon water tank and a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump, the engine brings substantial firefighting power to the department’s operations. These features allow crews to sustain strong water flow during incidents, improving effectiveness in both urban neighborhoods and rural environments where hydrant access can be limited.
Beyond its pumping capacity, the Impel model emphasizes firefighter safety and operational efficiency. The cab and body are engineered to enhance visibility and maneuverability, allowing crews to navigate congested roadways and challenging terrain more effectively. Inside, the vehicle includes ergonomic controls that reduce physical strain during high-pressure situations, as well as modern communications systems that allow for better coordination between firefighters and dispatch during emergencies.
Fire departments across the country have increasingly turned to advanced apparatus like the Pierce Impel to keep pace with growing populations, more complex fire scenarios, and the integration of new firefighting technologies. For Grants Pass, this addition supports ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet and maintain reliable service as the city continues to expand.
The engine will be stationed permanently at the Parkway Fire Station, strategically located to allow rapid deployment throughout the city. Its placement ensures that first responders can reach a wide range of neighborhoods quickly, from dense commercial areas to residential zones on the city’s edges.
The introduction of this new engine reflects both a commitment to firefighter safety and an investment in long-term service reliability. As communities across Southern Oregon face increasing demands from population growth and seasonal fire risks, modern equipment plays a critical role in ensuring fast, efficient, and coordinated emergency response.
With this upgrade, Grants Pass Fire aims to strengthen its operational readiness, providing residents with an added layer of protection for years to come.
