Grants Pass, OR – The City of Grants Pass Committee on Public Art (CoPA) is calling on artists aged 18 and older to showcase their talents in a unique and mobile public art initiative, “Art in Motion.” This innovative project turns local buses into moving art galleries, featuring selected artwork on 54” x 34” vinyl prints displayed on both sides of a Josephine Community Transit bus.
The program, designed to engage the public and integrate art into everyday life, seeks submissions for an exhibition period running from January to June 2025. Artists working in a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional media are encouraged to apply, with the exception of video/film, installation, or performance art.
A Gallery on Wheels
“Art in Motion” aims to expand the visibility of public art, provide the community with opportunities to experience creativity in their daily routines, and contribute to the artistic climate of Grants Pass. Selected pieces will be judged on originality, concept, and quality, with an emphasis on diverse styles and mediums. One or two artists will be chosen for this exhibition period.
Eligibility and Media Guidelines
Artists in disciplines such as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital graphics, sculpture, glass, ceramics, fiber arts, mixed media, and more are encouraged to submit. Submissions must consist of original work—no copied, classwork, or AI-generated art will be accepted.
Applicants may submit up to four images of their work, which should be dynamic and highly visible from a distance. For three-dimensional pieces, photos should be taken against a neutral background to ensure clarity and scalability for reproduction.
Submission Requirements
Artists must submit their entries by email (PDF or JPEG) or hard copy. Digital submissions should be in high resolution to ensure the best possible reproduction quality for display. Each file must be labeled with the artist’s last name, first initial, and entry number (e.g., Smith, J1).
CoPA reserves the right to crop or adjust images to fit the display format but will maintain the integrity of the artwork. Selected artists will have their name and the title or medium of their work displayed alongside the piece.
How to Apply
Artists can mail or deliver their submissions to Grants Pass City Hall, Attn: James Conway, at 101 NW “A” Street, Grants Pass, OR 97526, or email them to jconway@grantspassoregon.gov. The deadline for submissions is January 7, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
This is a chance for artists to not only display their work to a wide audience but also to contribute to the cultural vibrancy of Grants Pass. For more information, contact James Conway at the City of Grants Pass Economic Development Office.
