In an ongoing effort to promote safe medication disposal and reduce the risk of drug misuse in the community, the Grants Pass Police Department will host a Drug Take Back Event this Saturday, April 26, 2025. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the police department, located at 726 NE 7th Street.
This initiative offers residents a secure and anonymous way to discard unwanted or expired prescription medications, helping to prevent potential abuse and safeguard the environment from improper disposal methods. Community members are encouraged to check their medicine cabinets and gather any prescription drugs that are no longer needed.
Accepted items at the event include both solid and liquid forms of prescription medications. However, participants are urged to remove any personal information from prescription labels before dropping them off. This helps protect patient privacy and ensures that the collected medications are processed efficiently and securely.
Not all items are eligible for collection. The police department has specified that vapes with non-removable batteries, inhalers, intravenous (IV) solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted. Additionally, marijuana and other illicit substances are excluded from the program.
The Drug Take Back Event is part of a broader public safety effort to address the opioid crisis and reduce the availability of unused prescription medications that can fall into the wrong hands. By disposing of medications safely, residents help reduce accidental poisonings, overdoses, and environmental contamination from drugs being flushed down toilets or thrown in the trash.
This event aligns with national efforts to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs. Law enforcement agencies across the country host similar take-back days, often in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), to support public health and safety.
Local officials emphasize that participation in this event is completely voluntary and no questions will be asked. The focus is on creating a judgment-free environment where residents can feel comfortable disposing of their medications responsibly.
Grants Pass residents are encouraged to spread the word to neighbors, friends, and family members who may also have unused medications at home. The more people who take part, the greater the impact on community health and safety.
With prescription drug misuse continuing to pose a serious threat across the nation, local events like this are an important part of a community-wide solution. Residents can do their part this Saturday by showing up, cleaning out their medicine cabinets, and helping keep drugs out of the wrong hands—and out of the environment.
