Motorists traveling through portions of Grants Pass should prepare for changing traffic patterns, temporary closures and delays through the end of August as construction crews carry out a street overlay project along Churchill Street, Gladiola Street and sections of N Street.
The project began Monday, Aug. 10, and is scheduled to continue through Monday, Aug. 31. Work will progress through several stages, beginning with utility preparation before crews move into grinding and paving operations on individual streets. Utility adjustments are scheduled to follow the paving work later in the month.
Crews are lowering utilities from Aug. 10 through Aug. 14 in preparation for the roadway improvements. The next phase is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 17, when crews will grind and pave sections of N Street. Grinding operations will then move to Churchill Street on Tuesday, Aug. 18, followed by Gladiola Street on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Paving is scheduled to begin on Gladiola Street Thursday, Aug. 20, with Churchill Street scheduled for paving Friday, Aug. 21. Following completion of the primary paving operations, crews are expected to return Aug. 24 through Aug. 28 to raise utilities to match the newly completed roadway surfaces.
Drivers should expect conditions to change as construction moves from one street and phase of the project to another. Lane closures, temporary road closures and traffic delays may occur throughout the construction period, and motorists traveling through the affected areas should watch for construction crews, equipment, signs and traffic-control measures.
Because different portions of the project are scheduled on different days, access and traffic patterns may vary throughout the remainder of August. Drivers who regularly use Churchill Street, Gladiola Street or N Street should allow additional travel time and be prepared to use alternate routes when closures or construction activity affect their normal route.
The construction schedule extends through Aug. 31, although individual operations are scheduled to occur at different locations throughout the project area. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when approaching active work zones and follow all posted traffic-control directions.
