Grants Pass residents are invited to a critical community forum addressing housing challenges, scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 101 NW A St, Grants Pass. Hosted by the City of Grants Pass, the forum aims to shed light on pressing housing issues and gather community input to inform future strategies.
The event will focus on the severe rent burden impacting local renters. According to Oregon Housing & Community Services, 28.6% of renters in Grants Pass spend over half of their income on housing, a situation classified as “severely rent-burdened.” This financial strain leaves little room for other necessities like food, medical care, utilities, education, transportation, and childcare.
City officials and experts will present data on housing production, rent burden causes, fair housing challenges, and barriers to affordability. Participants will also learn about available resources and hear about potential solutions to ease the housing crisis.
“This forum is an opportunity for community members to share their experiences and collaborate on solutions,” said city representatives. Feedback collected during the discussion will directly influence Grants Pass’ housing initiatives and policies, aimed at addressing the urgent needs of renters.
Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and contribute their perspectives on how the city can better support those struggling with high housing costs.

As Grants Pass confronts these housing challenges, city officials hope this open dialogue will strengthen community-driven efforts to create equitable and sustainable housing solutions.
